This Master of Arts degree prepares graduates to provide educational services in a variety of social, industrial, health and human services, military, and governmental settings. The students select courses to build upon previous learning and work experience as they gain leadership skills for roles in an executive, managerial, or supervisory capacity within government, service, and not-for-profit organizations. Most of the courses for the Master of Arts in Executive Development for Public Service are offered via distance education or online options.
Program Objectives

· Emphasize an understanding of human behavior and the differences among individuals comprising public service organizations.
· Teach principles of human relations and communication techniques.
· Provide training in the application of principles of administration and management.
· Provide opportunities to design a unique program of study based on educational expectations and occupational goals.
Degree requirements
The Master of Arts in Executive Development for Public Service requires a minimum of 30-credits of graduate course work. Students must maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Students must take a minimum of six credits (two courses) in adult education (EDAC) as a core area, complete a required research course of three credits (one course), and then select 21-credits (seven courses) of electives from at least four of the categories of study which are listed below.
Students will work with their advisor to select the courses that best meet their educational and professional goals. It is strongly recommended students choose courses that complement their current skills/competencies and to sharpen a public service focus. This program can be matched with a graduate certificate or another major, such as adult and community education.
Internship
Students may elect to participate in a 3-credit internship experience with an organization, business, or a nonprofit by enrolling in EDAC 699 Internship in Adult and Community Education. This field experience or internship is under the joint supervision of the university (supervisor) and an experienced practitioner in a business or nonprofit setting. The program director and/or department chairperson must approve of the internship experience. A total of 6 credits may be earned.
