Master of Arts in Secondary Education

The Master of Arts in Secondary Education (MASE) extends the professional knowledge of teachers in Educational Studies including: Curriculum, Social and Multicultural Foundations of Education, Pedagogy, and Educational Technology. The program enables practicing teachers to explore theoretical concepts to improve instructional effectiveness. Students may pursue additional course work in Educational Studies or elect courses through which they enhance their knowledge of content or understanding of an area of educational interest. Students may also complete courses to become eligible for an Indiana secondary teaching license, or complete courses to prepare for instructional leadership positions and opportunities. Thirty credits of graduate courses are required to fulfill the degree requirements. It is possible to complete the Master of Arts in Secondary Education via distance education or online options.

Note 1: Students in the Secondary Transition to Teaching program must maintain a B average in all classes. Students earning lower than a B- in any course will be required to retake that course before progressing to EDSE 680 Student Teaching: Secondary School. Students may only retake a course one time per Graduate School policy.

Note 2: Some courses (e.g., ENG, MATH, SS, SCI, EDRD, etc.) may not be offered via distance education or online, which may limit elective course options or graduate content course options for those pursuing the Concentration in Dual Credit Credential and/or Teaching in an Interest Area.

At least 60% of course credits must be at the 600-level.
