The Department of Management offers innovative, hands-on, and personalized programs designed to develop talented graduates who are engaged, well-rounded, problem solvers, and critical and creative thinkers. Our majors gain the management and leadership expertise needed for building and sustaining successful organizations and communities. Our programs also provide students with access to alumni and industry leaders from a variety of sectors, connecting them to professional networks and career opportunities.

Management and Leadership majors develop important and in-demand “soft skills” including competencies such as self-awareness, change management, managing with emotional intelligence, problem-solving, decision-making, team building, motivation, influence, conflict resolution, and negotiation. Students also gain core business skills in accounting, finance, economics, computer information systems, and economics necessary to understand the functioning of organizations.

Unique in its emphasis on self-assessments, leadership styles, personal reflections, individual goal setting, immersive experiences, and a variety of leadership development tools to help students develop the knowledge, skills, experience, and abilities they need for success as students and postsecondary success as leaders and managers in a wide variety of industries.

Majors have the option to complete a People and Culture track where they focus on important human resources management competencies such as talent acquisition, employee learning, development and engagement, workforce management and employee relations, and strategic human resources. Students completing this track have the opportunity to earn their SHRM certification.

Entrepreneurship and Innovation majors prepare for the challenges and opportunities involved in new venture creation and small business management. The program is designed to help students develop an entrepreneurial mindset and prepare for a career as entrepreneurial leaders. The program emphasizes creativity and business model development.

International Business majors gain the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in today’s global economy. Majors have opportunities to follow their business and cultural interests, use foreign language skills, and may study abroad while gaining a solid foundation in core business functional areas.

Business Administration majors gain a broad perspective on business taught by faculty from departments across the Miller College of Business. Majors are fully equipped to succeed in a wide range of business opportunities, from startups to multinational corporations.

The department also offers minors in management and leadership, people and culture, entrepreneurship and innovation, international business, and management and organizational communication.
