The Estopinal College of Architecture and Planning (CAP) offers undergraduate degree programs in architecture, construction management, environmental design (architecture), historic preservation, interior design, landscape architecture, urban design, and urban planning and development. Admission Requirements

In addition to applying to Ball State, entry-level students pursuing Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning must complete a supplemental CAP application and secure admission into the common First Year design curriculum for students interested in any of these majors. Required courses in the first year provide a foundation in theories and skills pertinent to all three design disciplines. Those students intending to enter the Interior Design program must complete a supplemental application and secure admission into the Pre-Interior Design program. Required courses in Pre-Interior Design provide a foundation in design and application. Students submit a portfolio in the spring semester of their freshman year to be admitted into the Interior Design program and continue in the major. Admission is competitive.

Those students declaring a major in Construction Management are admitted directly into the Construction Management program and are NOT required to submit a supplemental application to the College.

Enrollment Management Plan

During their first year, CAP students have opportunities to meet with faculty and professional advisors to discuss career and curriculum options in all of the college’s degree programs.

Admission into the second year at CAP is subject to established departmental admission and retention standards (see each department’s standards in catalog). Students who do not meet these admission standards can be advised about other available degree programs of the college and the university.

First Year comprehensive curriculum

CAP 101: Environmental Design and Planning 1 (4 credits)

CAP 102: Environmental Design and Planning 2 (4 credits)

CAP 161: Design Communications Media 1 (2 credits)

ARCH 100, LA 100, PLAN 100 (2 credits each) - Introduction to Architecture; Introduction to Landscape Architecture; and Introduction to Urban Planning.  Each student must take all three courses in their first year.

Note: All courses of the First-year comprehensive curriculum must be completed (achieve a passing grade) prior to application for continuation into the second year for Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning. See each department’s admission standards in this catalog.
