The accounting undergraduate degree program prepares students for a rewarding career in public accounting firms, corporations, financial institutions, government/not-for-profit organizations, and entrepreneurship. In addition, the program prepares students to obtain certifications required for advancement in CPA firms and other organizations. These certifications include the Certified Public Accountant (CPA), CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner), and Certified Management Accountant (CMA). Often called “the language of business,” accounting is the most common undergraduate major of top corporate executives, and accounting graduates enjoy strong representation amongst leaders in every functional area and sector of business today.
Our comprehensive curriculum, which includes courses in Financial Accounting and Reporting, Accounting Systems and Analytics, Auditing Principles and Practices, and Federal Taxation, is designed to equip you with knowledge and skills essential in the accounting profession while developing critical thinking, data analysis, and decision-making skills that will benefit you wherever you take your career. Students are encouraged to complete a paid internship during their time in the program, with many students completing two or more full-time internships while working towards their degree. Additional hands-on learning opportunities are available to every student.
The Department and its Advisory Board highly recommend that students complete the 30-credit master's degree to enhance their professional and leadership skills, obtain a doctoral degree, or obtain the 30 additional credits necessary to receive CPA licensure in Indiana. Qualified students may simultaneously work towards their master’s degree in accounting during their final year of study through the Accelerated Master’s Program, allowing completion of both the undergraduate and graduate degrees in just four years!
