Minor in Financial Information

The Minor in Financial Information provides broad exposure to business finances for non-business majors. Required courses build a foundation of knowledge of accounting as the language of business, necessary for various electives students may choose to build a path most relevant to their ambitions. Key learning objectives of the Minor in Financial information include: 

  • Understand the importance of business record-keeping, where economic events are recorded to facilitate decision-making.
  • Explore reporting of financial performance, including the contents of each financial statement, and their meanings.
  • Develop an understanding of the US income tax system, including individuals and businesses.
  • Learn methods of costing products and services and using those costs to make resource allocation and pricing decisions.
  • Apply core accounting knowledge and discover accounting information system applications for both small and large businesses.
  • Learn to differentiate between the finance and accounting functions by the production and use of financial information, discover the foundation of data analytics in a business setting, and/or develop strong skills in common business software applications.

Not open to Miller College of Business students in the following Majors: Accounting, Business Administration, Business Analytics, Computer Information Systems, Economics, Entrepreneurial Management, Finance, Human Resources, International Business, Logistics and Supply Change Management, Marketing, Mathematical Economics, Professional Selling, Risk Management and Insurance,

No more than six (6) credit hours may be used in completion of both the Minor in Financial Information and another minor program.
