Cognate in Executive Development for Public Service

The Doctoral Cognate in Executive Development for Public Service can be either 15 or 24 credit hours. This interdisciplinary degree wraps around your doctoral major to support your research interests and provide opportunities to expand your scope of learning. This cognate supports leadership roles in government, not-for-profit, or for-profit organizations.

By taking courses in at least 4 different content areas, you will be able to integrate multiple perspectives and topics into your scholarship and research. Depending on the courses you take, the program can be taken all online or as a blend of online and live, on-site courses in Muncie, Indiana.

For the 15 credits cognate in executive development for public service, the student needs to select a total of 5 courses/ 15 credit hours for the cognate. The prefixes of suggested elective courses include: BED, BUSA, COMM, EDAC, EDAD, EDFO, EDMU, EDPS, EDTE, HSC, PR, SOCW, WELL.

 

The selection of courses is decided in conversation with the program director and approved by the Cognate committee member.

These courses provide opportunities to widen the knowledge base of the doctoral student related to his/her own research area. Substitutions can be made with approval of cognate committee member or director of the program.
