PEP 252 Foundations of Teaching Fitness in Physical Education and Sport

This course provides an introduction to the principles and practices of teaching fitness within K–12 physical education and sport settings. Emphasis is placed on evidence-based training principles, developmentally appropriate instruction, and the integration of fitness technology to enhance student learning and engagement. Students will explore strategies for assessing and promoting youth fitness through inclusive, safe, and effective practices that align with the SHAPE America National Standards for K–12 Physical Education. Laboratory experiences will allow students to apply fitness concepts, design and implement instructional activities, and practice assessment techniques that foster lifelong physical literacy and health-enhancing physical activity.
Prerequisite: permission of the coordinator.

Open only to Physical Education and Health Teacher Education Majors and Elementary Education Majors with a concentration in Physical Education.
