HIST 245 History through Objects

This course examines historical understanding of world cultures through selected objects that shaped, and were shaped by, the people, places, and events of the past. From everyday artifacts to iconic symbols, students will investigate how material culture reflects and shapes historical events, cultural change, and collective memory. Students will analyze artifacts as primary sources to explore the ways the world’s peoples have constructed and contested their past. Topics will vary with the instructor. May be repeated for different topics. A total of 6 hours of credit may be earned (only 3 hours count toward the Core Curriculum).
