This course examines the theoretical and scientific foundations of behavior analysis. Students will study philosophical perspectives within the field and the development of behavioral theories of language and cognition, from the operant analysis of verbal behavior to relational frame theory. Through contemporary literature, research, and practical exercises regarding key concepts (e.g., private events, emergent relations, rule-governed behavior), students will learn about the role of verbal behavior in various contexts. Applications ranging from language training for individuals to interventions that support prosocial behavior within groups and the analysis of wide-scale social issues will be explored.
Prerequisite: SPCE 609 and SPCE 611, each with a minimum grade of B or better.
