EDFO 350 Social, Historical, and Philosophical Foundations of Education

Examination of education systems, structures, and policies in the context of the education professions, including teachers, administrators, social workers, school psychologists, school counselors, nurses, media specialists, policy makers, legislators, school board members, and other professionals working in the school system or adult/community education (e.g., accountants, communications specialists, human resources managers, etc.). Special focus on the historical, philosophical, and sociological aspects of education as a system. Leads students through a reflective critique of our education system and the society of which it is an essential part. Consists of discussions regarding professional organizations, teaching practices, and curriculum from an ethical human rights framework to reflect upon why an individual may be committed to education as a community service.
