PSYS 470 Correctional Psychology
This course provides an introduction to the United States (US) correctional system and the use and practice of psychology within these settings. Students will learn about various correctional programs that broadly fit into either institutional or community-based corrections as well as the goals of risk and recidivism reduction. The course will also cover key aspects of correctional psychology, including psychologists' roles in prisons and jails, the unique challenges of correctional settings for psychology professionals, and career opportunities in correctional psychology.
Prerequisites: PSYS 100 and PSYS 318 OR permission of department chairperson.
