Minor in Nutrition
The Minor in Nutrition is designed for students interested in understanding food and nutrients and how they affect personal health and health of communities. The nutrition minor will also prepare students to be informed consumers of nutrition information. Through classroom and experiential learning, the program will train students to
- Name primary food sources of nutrients, including protein carbohydrates, fat, fiber, vitamins and minerals
- Plan nutrient-rich meals
- Recognize unique nutrient needs throughout the life cycle
- Identify functions of nutrients in the body
- Describe the biological, psychological, cultural and social factors that affect dietary intake and related diseases
- Recognize the relationships between nutrition, wellness and disease risk
This minor is not available to students majoring in dietetics.
