Major in Strategic Communication: Advertising (BA/BS)
Students will be guided by the outline of baccalaureate degrees, the University Core Curriculum and the program outline listed below. Students majoring in the School of Journalism and Strategic Communication are encouraged to meet with an advisor in the school within the first semester of the program. Prior to graduation, strategic communication: advertising majors must complete a senior survey, an exit exam, and an exit interview with the strategic communication: advertising program coordinator.
Students are encouraged to select a second major or minor that will complement their Strategic Communication: Advertising major. Some program areas in the School of Journalism and Strategic Communication may not be combined. Students may wish to consider optional add-on concentrations in Advertising Sales, Communication Studies, Emerging Media, Event Planning and Management, Journalistic Narrative Writing, Media Analytics, Media Presentation and Design, Photographic Storytelling and Sports Public Relations. Please check with an advisor in the school before selecting a complementary major, minor or concentration.

Required Courses
Students pursuing an advertising major must complete at least three credits each in JOUR 369 (Internship) and JOUR 389 (Advertising Topics).
Students pursuing a second major in Strategic Communication: Public relations must earn at least 15 credits that are exclusive to that major area of study. Students majoring in Strategic Communication: Advertising may add one or more optional concentration areas. If selecting multiple concentrations or minors, each area must have a minimum of nine credits which are unique to each concentration.
