The Department of Management offers innovative, hands-on, and personalized programs designed to develop talented graduates who are engaged, well-rounded, problem solvers, and creative thinkers. Our majors gain the management and leadership expertise needed for building and sustaining successful organizations and communities. Our programs provide students with access to alumni and industry leaders, connecting them to professional networks and career opportunities.
Management and Leadership majors develop important and in-demand “soft skills” including competencies such as self-awareness, change management, managing with emotional intelligence, problem-solving, decision-making, team building, motivation, influence, conflict resolution, and negotiation. Majors have the option to complete a People and Culture track or International Business track.
The People and Culture track focuses on human resources management competencies such as talent acquisition, employee learning, development and engagement, workforce management and employee relations, and strategic human resources. Students completing this track have the opportunity to earn their SHRM certification.
The International Business track focuses on the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in today’s global economy. Majors have opportunities to follow their business and cultural interests and may study abroad while gaining a solid foundation in core business areas.
The Entrepreneurship and Innovation major focuses on the challenges and opportunities involved in new venture creation and small business management. The program is designed to help students develop an entrepreneurial mindset and prepare for a career as entrepreneurial leaders. The program emphasizes creativity and business model development.
The Business Administration major provides a broad perspective and is taught by faculty from departments across the Miller College of Business. Majors are fully equipped to succeed in a wide range of business opportunities, from startups to multinational corporations.
The department also offers minors in management and leadership, people and culture, entrepreneurship and innovation, international business, and management and organizational communication.
