This course provides foundational knowledge relevant to Public Health Informatics (PHI), and introduces students to emerging application areas in the field. First, fundamental concepts of informatics, health information exchanges, and common data sources for public health informatics will be presented. The remainder of the course draws on these concepts to examine the use of these in public health. Throughout this course, students will learn how data can be collected from varying sources and used in public and population health.
Prerequisites: HSC 382 and HSC 383, each with a minimum grade of C.
