HSC 285 Global Health
This course uses a human rights framework to explore public health topics around the world, with a focus on health in low- and middle-income countries. Students will have the opportunity to explore specific health topics that are prevalent in developing countries, such as HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis, diarrheal, respiratory, and other infections, malaria and neglected tropical diseases, malnutrition, cardiovascular disease, mental health, maternal mortality, as well as health issues associated with human trafficking, forced migration, immigration, and war/conflict. Students will consider the bio-psycho-social, political, historical, and cultural dimensions of these issues in low-resource settings, such as a developing country context.
