CJC 240 Introduction to Corrections

This course provides a detailed introduction to American correctional institutions with an emphasis on history, philosophy, programs, policies and problems associated with correctional practice.  The course is designed to provide a basic understanding of the structure of correctional institutions, the types of offenders in correctional contexts, the various correctional work roles, and cultural elements influencing correctional institutions and policies over time.

Prerequisite: CJC 101, CJC 102; or permission of the department chairperson.
