AHS 225 African American Art

This course explores the contributions Black artists have made to the social, cultural, political, and aesthetic history of the United States. It examines the role of visual art in major moments in American history, including the period of enslavement, the Abolitionist era and the Civil War, the Harlem Renaissance, the Civil Rights Movement of the 20th century, and the Black Lives Matter movement of the 21st century.

Prerequisites: AHS 100 or AHS 101 or AHS 102, or by permission of the instructor
