Programs

The master of architecture is for those seeking professional licensure and is accredited by the NAAB (National Architectural Accrediting Board). We offer two tracks for completing the master of architecture (MArch) professional degree.

· M.Arch: Three-year (+ one summer) program for those holding a bachelor’s degree in a field other than architecture. (non-professional degree + 99 credits)

· M.Arch with Advanced Standing: Two-year program for those with an undergraduate pre-professional degree in architecture from a NAAB accredited school in the US or the international equivalent. (pre-professional degree + 60 credits)

Advancement from Year 1 to Year 2 requires completion of all courses in Year 1. The Studio courses must be taken in the sequential order shown below. Advanced Standing may be offered to students with a pre-professional degree in architecture from a NAAB accredited school in the US or the international equivalent.

Studio Sequence:

3-year: ARCH501, ARCH502, ARCH503, ARCH601, ARCH602, ARCH603, ARCH604

2-year: ARCH601, ARCH602, ARCH603, ARCH604

In the United States, most registration boards require a degree from an accredited professional program as a prerequisite for licensure. NAAB is the sole agency authorized to accredit professional degree programs in architecture offered by U.S. institutions with regional accreditation from a Regional Accrediting Organization. M.Arch programs may be granted eight-year, three-year, or two-year terms of accreditation, depending on the extent of conformance with established educational standards.

The preprofessional degree is not, by itself, recognized as an accredited degree.

Ball State University’s M.Arch Program is a fully NAAB-accredited degree program that allows students to pursue professional licensure through the Architecture Registration Exams and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.

Next NAAB visit for the M.Arch program: 2029

Previous accreditation visit: 2021
