BIO 557 Molecular Biology

This course explores the structure, function and interaction of many types of biological molecules including DNA, RNA and proteins.  Major emphasis will be placed on genes, gene regulation/expression, control of translation, cell cycle regulation, G proteins and second messenger pathways, receptors and signal transduction, apoptosis, oncogenes/proto-oncogenes and cancer.  Laboratory exercises are designed to give practical, hands-on experience and train students in modern molecular techniques that will be useful in future endeavors.

 

Prerequisite: BIO 215 or equivalent, or permission of instructor. Not open to students who have credit in BIO 457.
