The School of Music is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and offers four-year undergraduate degrees in music, music education, music performance, music media production, music composition, and jazz studies. Each degree requires core experiences in applied study, conducting, music history and musicology, music theory, and ensemble participation.

Admission to major or principal study within the School of Music is based on an audition in applied music for most degree programs (the exceptions are the Bachelor of Arts/Science in Music with a concentration in Music Exploration and the Bachelor of Science in Music Media Production with a concentration in Game and Media Sound Design). Auditioning undergraduate music majors are required to demonstrate proficiency on one or more of the following: keyboard (piano or organ), a symphonic instrument (strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion), the guitar, voice, or harp. Students may study traditional repertoire, jazz, or commercial music, depending on the appropriateness for their degree program. Students admitted to the School of Music are expected to attend weekly recitals, perform regularly on their primary instrument (as appropriate), and remain in compliance with the ensemble participation policy as required by curricula.

The School of Music also offers several minor programs. Minors include Jazz – Commercial Music, Music History, Music Literature, Music Recording, Music Theory and Composition, Piano, Sacred Music, Symphonic Instruments or Guitar, and Voice. For information, audition, and admission processes for a specific minor, please contact the School of Music, as these requirements vary depending on the program.

Transfer credit for any music course must be cleared by the School of Music’s Associate Director for Academic Affairs. Students are encouraged to consult the School of Music Undergraduate Handbook, located on the School of Music website:
