The School of Art inspires and educates artists, designers, scholars and teachers, offering Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Bachelor of Arts (BA), and Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees. The BFA offers concentrations in animation, ceramics, drawing, glass, intermedia, metals, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and visual communication/graphic design. The BA/BS degrees offers majors in art education and graphic arts management. The BA degree offers a major in art with concentrations in art history and studio art. Minor options include art history, studio art, digital publishing, and print production.

The School of Art has fully dedicated studios and labs, including the state-of-the-art Marilyn Glick Center for Glass. The curriculum is complemented by a rich calendar of visiting artists, designers and scholars, as well as a full schedule of professional and student exhibitions in The Ned and Gloria Griner Art Gallery. Students and faculty also enjoy a close collaboration with the David Owsley Museum of Art. Students have exceptional opportunities for internships, practicums, immersive learning, field trips, and study abroad.

Students specializing in any studio art program must receive grades of C or higher in all first-year art foundation program courses (ADS 101, ADS 102, ADS 103; AFA 101). Students must repeat courses in which they receive grades of C- or below. Concentrations involve a three-year sequence of courses beyond the first-year art foundation program courses.

  • Animation (BFA degree) – Successful completion of a portfolio review is required for admission into the Animation sequence, after the completion of the first-year art foundation program courses. Review guidelines are revised periodically and made available through the School of Art.
  • Visual Communication/Graphic Design (BFA degree) – Successful completion of a portfolio review is required for admission into the Visual Communication/Graphic Design sequence, after the completion of the first-year art foundation program courses. • Art Education (BA/BS degree) – Students pursuing a teaching major must meet all teacher certification and GPA requirements.
  • Art Course Evaluation for Transfer Students – Transfer students are required to submit a sample of artwork and course syllabi from each course to determine art program credit.

All students undergo periodic reviews of their portfolios throughout their undergraduate education. The school reserves the right to retain digital copies of student work for exhibition and accreditation.
