NUTR 656 Nutrition Counseling and Behavior Change

This course emphasizes the development of advanced nutrition counseling and effective communication skills to facilitate behavior change. Relevant application of health behavior theories, communication skills, and client-centered counseling styles are discussed in detail. Emphasis is placed on the importance of health literacy, cultural competence, and social determinants of health. Context-specific examples for self-management of chronic disease, weight management, and eating disorders and disordered eating are included.

 Prerequisites. NUTR 275 or 340, or permission of the Nutrition and Dietetics Graduate Program Director
