UD 637 Urban Design Assessment and Impact Evaluation
This course introduces students to the methods and metrics used to assess urban design projects and evaluate their environmental, social, and economic impacts. Students will explore various assessment tools (Such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Post-Occupancy Evaluation (POE), Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Social Impact Assessment (SIA), Economic Impact Analysis (EIA), Walk Score, Quality of Life Surveys, Health Impact Assessment (HIA), LEED for Neighborhood Development, SITES Rating System, and Visual Preference Surveys (VPS)) to measure outcomes and effectiveness in urban design initiatives. Through case studies and hands-on projects, students will learn to analyze and report on the short- and long-term impacts of design decisions, gaining skills in evidence-based assessment to inform sustainable urban planning. Prerequisite: Graduate status and permission of the MUD program coordinator. A total of 4 credits may be earned.
