SOCW 602 Diversity and Inclusion
Diversity and Inclusion explores institutional structures and how they affect communication at the individual, organizational, and community levels. Special emphasis is placed on diversity of ideas, identity, and belonging. The content emphasizes how diverse perspectives shape people’s experiences. Special emphasis is placed on cross-cultural communication, cultural competency, multicultural counseling, recognizing and moderating individual biases, and communicating effectively with people. Theories of power, conflict, and restorative justice are explored. Open only to SOCW students or by permission of the advisor or department chairperson.
