The Department of Elementary Education offers a variety of graduate programs to help educators, educational leaders, and other stakeholders concerned with the education of children from birth through elementary school increase their knowledge and skill in early childhood, elementary education, or literacy instruction. The master’s and doctoral programs have been designed to enable professionals to further strengthen their advocacy and leadership and to accomplish their individualized career and professional goals. Program faculty are experienced educators, continue to spend time with children, and work closely with professionals in the field. Course offerings vary each semester and are designed to accommodate the schedules of busy professionals. Course and program offerings include ample flexibility to meet a range of graduate learners' interests and needs, including some post-graduate licensing opportunities and programming in teaching reading that extends through adulthood.

Programs

The department offers a Master of Arts in Education (MAE) in Elementary Education. A transition-to-teaching license in Elementary Education is also available. Certificates in early childhood instruction, early childhood administration, and literacy instruction, are also offered. Advanced degree programs include Doctor of Education (EdD) in Elementary Education and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Elementary Education.
