EDRD 620 Disciplinary Literacy & Integrated Instruction: Addressing Content Area Reading & Informational Text

This course examines teachers’ addressing of children’s learning to read, write, speak, listen, view, and visually represent within subject areas such as science or social studies.  Course members explore key topics such as reading and writing of informational text, reading and writing in order to inquire and to construct knowledge, content area reading strategies, discipline-specific language, and integration of children’s science or social studies learning into English Language Arts instruction from a sociocultural perspective.  Appropriate for teachers who wish to help students to comprehend and learn from text in science and social studies lessons or who wish to develop integrated units of study.
