If you want to devote your career to playing that same essential role in the life of a child, then the undergraduate program in the Department of Elementary Education is the right choice.
An elementary school teacher not only helps children learn but prepares tomorrow's leaders. We offer a Teaching Major in Elementary Education*. Our bachelor's degree is guided by our Department Mission and prepares you to teach kindergarten through sixth grade. As a major in the degree program, you'll have multiple opportunities to work with children and teachers in local schools and community organizations. While gaining a foundation in a wide range of subjects, you'll also choose a specific area of emphasis:

Our Teaching Major in Elementary Education equips you to shape and guide the next generation of learners. We provide a rigorous curriculum, immersive and experiential learning opportunities, impactful service programs situated in the community, real-world connections through the Burris Laboratory School (a K-12 incubator and innovator of effective teaching methods), and much more. Your undergraduate education will be guided by Ball State’s baccalaureate degrees and the professional education assessment/decision point requirements.
*An interdepartmental Dual Major in Elementary and Special Education is also available.
