ENG 694 Rhetorics of the Ancient World

A survey of the history and development of rhetorical theories and practices in a variety of ancient cultures. Special research problems in the explication of literary texts from an ancient rhetorical perspective. Extensive readings in selected secondary texts and, where available, primary texts (in translation).
Prerequisite: permission of the department chairperson.
