Major in Economics (BA/BS)

Economics provides a framework to analyze a wide variety of issues in business, society and politics. For example, economists’ study everything from business, politics, health, education, poverty, and the environment. Economics majors excel in careers in business, government, law, and education.

The Economics major offers two main concentrations, Business and Liberal Arts.  The Liberal Arts concentration offers several different specialized tracks: general, Economics and Law, Financial Economics, Health Economics and Public Policy, and Political Economy. In addition, students can take the interdepartmental major in Mathematical Economics (BS).

Business Concentration, 72 credits

Our option in business provides outstanding training and a strong pathway for economics majors to pursue careers in the business world of finance, management, marketing, and more. This option is also a great choice if you plan to pursue a master of business administration (MBA).

In addition to the economics courses for this option, you’ll be required to meet the Miller College of Business core requirements and take required business courses.

Our options in the Liberal Arts provide a background in economics suitable for students who are not in the Miller College of Business, but still wish to major in economics.  We offer five tracks under this concentration: a general track, Economics and Law, Financial Economics, Health Economics and Public Policy, and Political Economy. The students in all five tracks of Liberal Arts Concentrations are required to take the courses in the “Liberal Arts Core Requirements" section.
