EDPS 644 Coding & Analyzing Qualitative Data: Systematic Approaches for Educational & Psychological Research
The overarching course goal is to increase the methodological rigor and analytical defensibility within the coding of qualitative data. Students will employ (a) multiple methods for coding and analyzing qualitative data and (b) a deliberate decision-making process to select specific analysis methods. Students will analyze existing data sets using multiple qualitative methods and demonstrate how different coding approaches answer different questions, resulting in different findings. Students will be able to develop a coding scheme, including the establishment of reliability, credibility, and trustworthiness within their approach, and then, they will present their findings in manner commensurate with the expectations of the educational psychology field.
