Accreditation and Professional Memberships

Ball State University is institutionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.  Programs with specialized accreditations are listed below by college. 

College of Communication, Information, and Media

The School of Journalism and Strategic Communication is accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications. The public relations programs hold accreditation from Certification in Education for Public Relations (CEPR) by the Public Relations Society of America.  

College of Fine Arts

The BA in Art, BFA in Art, BFA in Visual Arts/Animation, and MFA in Visual Arts are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Arts and Design. The BA/BS in Dance and BFA in Dance are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Dance. The BA/BS in Theatre and BFA in Theatre are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre.  Programs in the School of Music are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.  The David Owsley Museum of Art is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. 

College of Health

The doctoral degree in counseling psychology is accredited by the American Psychological Association. The master’s degree in counseling is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). 

The BA/BS in Dietetics and MS in Nutrition and Dietetics programs and the Dietetics Internship Program maintain separate accreditations by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). The Health Education and Promotion Program is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). The Radiography Program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiology Technology (JRCERT). The Respiratory Therapy program within The Indiana Respiratory Therapy Education Consortium (program number 200039) is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC). 

The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) programs are accredited by the Commission on Standards and Accreditation of the Council on Social Work Education (CWSE). 

The Master of Arts (M.A.) program in speech-language pathology and the Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program are accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.  

The Bachelor of Athletic Training (BAT) program is accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Athletic Training Education.  

The baccalaureate program in the School of Nursing is accredited by the Indiana State Board. The baccalaureate in nursing, master’s in nursing, and Doctor of Nursing Practice programs and post-graduate APRN certificate program are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). 

College of Sciences and Humanities 

The BA/BS program in Chemistry is certified by the Committee on Professional Training of the American Chemical Society (ACS). 

The BA/BS program in Legal Studies is approved by the American Bar Association (ABA)  

The clinical program affiliates for the BA/BS program in Medical Technology are accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).  

Miller College of Business 

The Miller College of Business programs are accredited by AACSB International (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) except for the programs in fashion industry studies; economics - liberal arts; hospitality innovation and leadership; mathematical economics; and property management. The accounting programs hold supplemental accreditation from AACSB International. 

R. Wayne Estopinal College of Architecture and Planning 

The Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture programs are accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). 

The BA/BS program in Construction Management is accredited by the American Council on Construction Education (ACCE). The BA/BS program in Interior Design is accredited by the Council of Interior Design Accreditations (CIDA) and the National Association of Schools of Arts and Design (NASAD). 

The Bachelor of Landscape Architecture and Master of Landscape Architecture programs are accredited by the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board of the American Society of Landscape Architects. 

The Bachelor of Urban Planning and Development and Master of Urban and Regional Planning programs are accredited by the Planning Accreditation Board (PAB) of the American Institute of Certified Planners and the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning. 

Teachers College 

All initial educator preparation and licensing programs are accredited by the Indiana Department of Education and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). All advanced educator preparation programs are accredited by the Indiana Department of Education. 

The EdS in Educational Psychology (School) is accredited by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) and the doctoral program in School Psychology is approved by NASP and accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). 

Other 

Burris Laboratory School is accredited by Cognia. 

The Center for Medical Education is accredited as a part of the Indiana University School of Medicine by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, Association of American Medical Colleges.  

The Counseling Center is accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services, and its internship training program is accredited by the American Psychological Association.  

The Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities has Freeway School Accreditation, Indiana Department of Education. 

The Intensive English Institute is accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation. 

The Testing Center is certified by the National College Testing Association. 

Professional Membership 

The university also holds membership in many professional organizations, including the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, American Council on Education, American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, Council for Advancement and Support of Education, Council of Graduate Schools in the United States, National Collegiate Honors Council, National University Continuing Education Association, the College Entrance Examination Board, the Southern Regional Education Board, and the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture.
