BIO 583 Marine Biology

Introduction to marine environments. Properties of seawater, hydrodynamics. Phyto-plankton and benthic plants. Primary production, nutrient cycles. Marine animals, surveys of major taxa. Adaptations for life on the bottom, open water, intertidal zones, estuaries, and abyssal regions. Problems of overexploitation and pollution. Not open to students who have credit in BIO 483.
