Masters of Arts or Science (MA/MS) in Kinesiology, 30-33 credits
Admission requirements
Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in education, physical education, biology, or other appropriate major; grade-point average (GPA) of at least 2.75 on a scale of 4.0; GRE scores; a statement of purpose, three letters of recommendation, resume, and other supporting documents. GRE scores are waived for Athletic Coaching Education.
Applicants must meet the admission requirements of the Graduate School and complete an application from the School of Kinesiology. A student with a GPA of less than 2.75 on a 4.0 scale must take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test. Students with satisfactory scores on the GRE will be considered for admission under probationary status to the program. Any deficiencies must be made up through course work taken in addition to degree requirements.
Degree requirements
Students completing athletic coaching education must complete a minimum of 30 credits of graduate courses. Students completing Sport Administration and Sport and Exercise Psychology must complete a minimum of 33 credits of graduate courses. In order to earn a master of science degree, these courses must include 6 credits of a thesis project (THES 698). In order to earn a master of arts degree, these courses must include 3 credits of a research project (RES 697) or creative project (CRPR 698), except students in sport administration and athletic coaching education have an additional concentration which includes internship hours. Students electing RES 697, CRPR 698, or THES 698 must make a final oral defense.
