ANTH 231 Cannibals, Warriors, and Princesses: Native Americans in Popular Culture

Explores how representations of Native Americans have been part of popular culture since their first contacts with Europeans. This course surveys how Native Americans have been represented by non-natives in early contact literature, ethnography, exhibitions, films, fiction, and images. The course also considers the ways Native American authors, artists, filmmakers and anthropologists have challenged these portrayals.

Prerequisites: ANTH 101 or ANTH 103.
