Programs

The School of Journalism and Strategic Communication (SJSC) offers Master of arts (MA) programs in emerging media design and development (EMDD), journalism, and public relations. The MA in EMDD, an interdisciplinary project-based program, welcomes students from a variety of disciplines to its traditional on-campus program or low-residency experience in Fishers, Indiana. The Center for EMDD is home to the on-campus program and an interdisciplinary storytelling lab, which combines human-computer interaction, usability and user experience, design thinking, and transmedia storytelling to develop innovative projects. Every EMDD student partners with an external organization on a project team to tackle real-world problems. The MA in public relations, certified by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), prepares students for professional leadership and career advancement in strategic communication, market research, social media, digital analytics, digital marketing, project planning, and development or a path toward doctoral study. The MA in journalism provides an opportunity for students to become better reporters and storytellers with expertise in media analytics. Students gain additional applied and academic research experience in the SJSC’s Unified Research Lab, a collaborative research center, where faculty and students conduct media research using technologies, including extended reality (XR), virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR) and various methods, including eye-tracking and psychophysiology.
