2022-2023 Undergraduate Catalog

Major in Exercise Science (BA/BS)

78-87 credits

Exercise Science Major in Kinesiology

Admission Requirements – Exercise Science Major

  • The Exercise Science major requires the completion of the following introductory courses: EXSC 147, EXSC 190 (must earn a minimum of a B), EXSC 292 or ANAT 201, EXSC 293, BIO 111, CHEM 101 or CHEM 111, PSYS 100, and with a cumulative 2.75 GPA across these classes, all with a C or better, and none can be repeated more than once.
  • A minimum overall GPA of 2.75 is required before advancing to completing core courses in the major.
  • Students must satisfy the Exercise Science Code of Conduct and the Ball State University Code of Students Rights and Responsibilities.
  • Students will request permission from EXSC advisors to enroll in the core courses in the Exercise Science major. A retention check regarding the above introductory course requirements will be completed at that time

Retention Standards (once admitted to EXSC major program)

  • Once admitted into the Exercise Science major core, the students’ academic progress will be evaluated each semester. Students must maintain a C or higher in all Exercise Science major courses and can repeat courses only once to maintain GPA requirements. The student whom continues to demonstrate the appropriate overall GPA 2.75, and an Exercise Science major GPA 2.75, will continue to progress through the major. To be eligible for the internship and completion of the Exercise Science major, students must maintain an overall GPA of 2.75 and an Exercise Science major GPA of 2.75.

  • If a student is found to be in violation of a Ball State University Exercise Science Code of Conduct, or if the student demonstrates academic dishonesty or professional misconduct, the situation will be reviewed by the Retention Committee and appropriate actions (warning, probation, dismissal from program) will be taken. Depending on the Committee’s decision, a student may be removed or prevented from enrolling in any further Exercise Science courses. Actions on behalf of the Retention Committee will be documented and discussed with the student.
